When creating Operations via InFlight, there may come times where you’ll be asked to operate within LAANC-enabled airspace. Skyward provides a mechanism to get both real-time approval for flights within LAANC facility grids, as well as the ability to submit further coordination requests in the case where your flights may need to exceed the published facility grid heights.
In order to submit a LAANC request, begin by selecting the LAANC icon. You'll notice that the icon is yellow in color, this is indicating that you have not yet been approved to fly in this area.
A weather advisory may appear next, letting you know that approvals obtained via LAANC are not valid in Class E airspace when the weather ceiling is below 1,000 feet. Tap Acknowledge and Continue.
Your area of operation will now be displayed. Verify this is where you'd like authorization to fly. Once confirmed, tap on the Request Authorization button in the bottom left-hand corner.
Review the terms and conditions and tap I Agree. Send Request when complete.
Your authorization will then be submitted for approval.
Once your LAANC request has been submitted and approved, you'll be taken back to the operation. You'll see that the LAANC icon is now green indicating that you have authorization to fly this mission.
Editing Grid Altitudes:
If applying for LAANC in an area where you’d like to exceed the published facility grid height, you’re able to change that height by tapping on the arrow next to the altitude listed in the lower left-hand corner.
You can now enter in the altitude you wish to fly at. Along with your safety justification that will be reviewed by the local ATC or airspace management office responsible for that airspace. Tap Done when complete.
You will then be able to review your request before sending it off for approval. Once reviewed, tap Request Authorization.
