Skyward’s Flight Risk Assessment allows Administrators, Pilots, or crew to complete a preconfigured questionnaire to assess the risk profile associated with an upcoming Operation. In this article, we’ll review accessing and completing the Risk Assessment, as well as the risk mitigation process.
To begin, simply create a new Operation in Skyward, or visit an existing one by selecting Operations from the header menu. For more information on creating an Operation, please review this article.
Once you’ve opened your Operation, select the Actions menu at the righthand side by clicking the three dot menu icon, or select the Not Started button to begin.
You’ll then see the Risk Assessment about halfway down the drop-down. Select Risk Assessment to continue.
Once Risk Assessment is selected, you’ll be redirected to the risk questionnaire. The header at the top of the page will keep track of the risk threshold for each of your responses and will handle the assignment of your overall operational risk score.
Important note: your overall risk score will always be equal to the highest level of risk selected during the questionnaire. So, for example, if all of my risks were ‘low’ except for one which was marked ‘high’, my risk score will be considered high overall.
Review each of the questions in the risk assessment and select either Yes or No. As you complete these questions, the risk score for each component will populate on the screen.
Continue the form to review and complete each of the assigned questions. In the case that a risk is assigned as Moderate or High based on your answers, you can Add Mitigation in order to explain how you’ll mitigate this risk. Simply select the Add Mitigation option below the question that you’re working on.
This will populate a dialogue box where mitigation steps can be entered, and a new risk value can be selected based upon your mitigation.
This mitigated risk will then be counted when considering the final risk score, and the total number of mitigated risks will appear in the header at the top of the page.
Continue to complete the entire risk assessment and review the overall risk score at the top of the page, as well as detailed aggregates for each risk level.
Once done, use the ‘< Operation’ button in the top-left part of the Risk Assessment to return to the Operation menu. From the Operation, you’ll be able to validate that a Risk Assessment was completed by reviewing the Risk Score in the top-right corner of the screen, next to the Checklists.
Note: while the Risk Assessment is still in progress the button will show a status of ‘In Progress’. Alternatively, it will show ‘Not Started’ if the Risk Assessment has not been accessed.
