Why hasn’t my further coordination request reached the local ATC?
- Further coordination requests are submitted to the FAA and are reviewed by an Air Traffic Manager (ATM). It’s possible that the ATM will operate from the local ATC or from an airspace management office. LAANC requests submitted to smaller airports are typically lumped together and administered by one airspace management office. The ATC or local airport manager may not see LAANC requests come through.
Can you provide updates on the status of my pending further coordination request?
- Skyward does not have visibility into the status of pending further coordination requests. When the FAA approves or denies the request, you’ll receive an email notification.
Why was my further coordination request denied?
- We are not provided with visibility into the reasons a request is denied. If your request is denied, we recommend adding more detail to the safety justification and submitting your request as far in advance as possible to give the local Air Traffic Manager maximum time to process.
Why isn’t there LAANC information below the map on the Operations page?
- If there is no information below the map in the operations detail page, your flight area is not in LAANC enabled airspace. You may be in uncontrolled, restricted or prohibited airspace. Please check the map for advisories, restrictions and special use airspace before you fly.
Skyward says LAANC is unavailable. How can I place a request?
- When LAANC is unavailable you’ll need to place your request with the FAA directly. You can do this through Drone Zone.
Can I combine a LAANC request with waivers?
- You can not combine LAANC requests with waivers. If you have a waiver, you’ve been given the right to fly only within the parameters of your waiver. We recommend uploading your existing waiver to the Documents section of your operation.
Where can I find my authorization or reference numbers?
- After you’ve submitted your LAANC request you can find your authorization in the operations details page. Under the map preview there is a button labeled “View Authorization”.
I accidentally deleted my operation that has my LAANC authorization. Can I recover the Notice of Authorization?
- Unfortunately if you delete your operation, the Notice of Authorization will also be deleted. Before deleting an operation make sure that you don’t have an active or pending LAANC request.
Why does it say that my LAANC request is outside daylight hours, even though the time I input is within daylight hours?
- When submitting a LAANC request, the time zone that is used is the one where your computer is currently. If you’re planning an operation in a different time zone, you’ll need to calculate the time difference accordingly. For example, if you’re on the east coast but planning an operation in Denver, CO that starts at 10:00 AM mountain time, you’d need to input the operation start time as 12:00:00 to accommodate for the two hour time difference.
Why is my LAANC request invalid?
- In certain scenarios, a change in airspace may render an existing LAANC authorization invalid. Usually this is due to one of the following conditions: a) the UASFM grid changes, b) updates are made to national security UAS restrictions (NSUFR), c) updates are made to prohibited or restricted areas. When an authorization becomes invalid, you will be notified via email. You can navigate to the operation to cancel the request/s.
Why was my further coordination request immediately cancelled?
- If the FAA is unable to respond to a request for further coordination 24 hours before the flight, we are required to automatically cancel the request. For example, if you placed a request at 10:00 AM today to fly at 12:00 PM tomorrow, that only leaves your local ATC 2 hours to process your request, and it will be automatically cancelled at 12:00 PM today (24 hours in advance of the flight). It can take up to 30 days for the FAA to process further coordination requests. We recommend placing your request as far in advance as possible to increase your chances of receiving approval. Requests can be placed up to 90 days in advance of the flight.
When using LAANC, what data is sent to the FAA and how long is that data retained?
- Skyward collects data from your LAANC requests so that we may act as a LAANC service provider in order to provide LAANC authorizations from the FAA, as well as aid in the development of Skyward's LAANC system. Skyward collects the following data: operator first name, last name, email, and phone number, as well as the following information about the operation: operation name, request geometry and altitudes, requested airport and airspace, UASFM grids covered, start and end date and times and duration, safety justifications, submission codes, and a history of the LAANC authorization statuses. Skyward retains this data for as long as is required to provide the services plus an additional two years and shares it with the FAA pursuant to law, federal regulation, and any agreements entered into with the FAA as part of being a LAANC provider. Skyward does not claim any intellectual property rights pertaining to your LAANC data.
